Show Notes
Angela says there are many different things people can do every day to become healthier and more aware. For example, reducing pre-packaged drinks is a way people can improve their health. All we need is water; most people are walking around dehydrated”
Angela also talks about meat products and how we should reduce the amount of meat we consume and choose different forms of protein. She says most of the meat products we consume today are not healthy for us or the environment, and if you have to eat meat, grass-fed is better than conventionally-raised meats. “If you choose to eat meat, just try to be a little bit more earth-friendly about it”
When talking about protein sources outside of meat, Angela says you have to think outside the box. Noting that with beans and legumes there are many possibilities of dishes to make.
Angela talks about how she got into nutrition. She says she started out becoming a vegetarian, mostly just for the well-being of animals. After she had her son, they realized that he was never feeling well and she often suffered headaches and stomach aches. After many doctor consultations and advice, Angela didn’t want to just mask the symptoms; she wanted to find out what the root cause of this was. She started her sons on a healthy diet and noticed the results right away. Angela then decided to go back to school to study nutrition. “I really realized the relationship between what we are eating, what we are putting in our bodies, what we are bringing into our environment and how we are feeling; how directly related that was.”
As a nutritionist Angela tells us how she helps her clients pinpoint problem areas in their diets, but also helps them with psychological part of food attachment. “People don’t know. They’re not aware of where their food is coming from and what’s going into it.”
When talking about calcium, Angela says people think they have to get calcium from dairy, but she lists many alternatives to getting calcium from other organic foods.
